New paper on tree growth patterns published in Ecology Letters
Together with colleagues from WSL, we published a paper in Ecology Letters this week that highlights temporally highly resolved patterns in tree growth. The study shows that increment growth in trees occurs only on a few days in the growing season. It is therefore the number of days where the environmental conditions are suitable for growth that determine annual increment growth of a tree rather than the length of the growing season itself. The study utilised data from TreeNet (https://treenet.info), where automated dentrometers collected data from seven tree species throughout Switzerland for the past ten years.
