New paper on CO2 effects on oxygen isotopes in plants published in New Phytologist
This week our latest paper on stable oxygen isotopes in plant materials got published in New Phytologist. The paper describes an experiment where we tested the effects of elevated CO2 on the oxygen isotope composition of leaf water and leaf cellulose. The purpose of this work was to test if oxygen isotopes can be used as proxy to reveal CO2 effects on the stomatal conductance of plants. Our experiments have shown that detecting CO2 responses of stomatal conductance with oxygen isotopes in leaf cellulose as a proxy might be more difficult than previously thought.
